Illinois DCFS to Begin Trainings to Ensure LGBTQ Youth Have “Safe and Affirming Places”

After a state audit revealed substandard practices by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) regarding LGBTQ youth in the agency’s care, DCFS announced that it will redevelop its required trainings for staff, private agency partners, and those who provide foster care. The trainings will focus on better understanding of LGBTQ youth who are system involved and prioritizing their needs. Along with improving training, DCFS will expand its network of gender-affirming therapists, service providers, and health care professionals across Illinois. See the full article here.
