October 15, 2020 | by Betsy PearlCenter for American Progress

As public support grows for shifting public safety efforts away from law enforcement, a new report from the Center for American Progress promotes civilian Offices of Neighborhood Safety as “an important step toward a future in which arrest and incarceration are no longer the first response to every issue in society.” Citing examples of ONS success in a number of US cities, the report lays out the steps city governments must take to establish their own ONS. The report is available here.
